Why I feel sorry for Michael Scott … sometimes.

13 04 2007

The Office, NBC Thursdays at 7:30, is currently my favorite show.  Although Dwight is my favorite character, Steve Carrel’s Michael Scott is the engine of the show.  Some of my friends think he is funny, some hate him, some mute the TV when Michael talks, and some memorize his one liners.  No matter how you feel about Michael it is easy to see that he is desperate for the same things that we all need; acceptance, significance, and security.  Michael always pushes the limits of his comic ability, creativity, insanity, position as boss, and passion for Jan (although wierd) to find acceptance, significance, and security.  The irony is that the harder Michael tries to create the answer to his loneliness, the more he creates an atmosphere where no one will help him.  God has created us in such a way that we must look outside of ourselves to find meaning in life.  Next time you laugh at Michael calling himself a hero for saving his own life … by not faking his own suicide … to prove that he doesn’t live a “nerf life”, be thankful for the needs Jesus has fulfilled in your life.

Great reflection you have here. I love how you related to the office, which is a great show. Just goes to show that many things in life can be significant, even tv shows
