About
History
ChallengeMSC is a ministry based out of Mesa State College in Grand Junction, CO. Founded first in the early 50’s, it has changed leadership over the years until 1980 when Darrin Crow, a fresh alumni from Mesa, stepped up at the calling of his director, Chip. Darris has served as director at Mesa since then, helping students to learn to Love and be Loved by the one who created them, Jesus Christ.
Now
Under Darrin there are two assistant directors: Zach King and Kevin Young. Through these three men, ChallengeMSC continues to grow in it’s two main areas of Focus: Mass and Velocity
The Physics of ChallengeMSC
We work under a simple equation. Grow in Mass, Increase in Velocity.
- Mass is Volume with Density.
Volume is pure numbers. The more warm-blooded bodies we have in the group, the higher our Volume.
Density is Spiritual Knowledge. The Higher the density of a group, the more about following Jesus they know.
We develop higher volumes through Evangelism. The more people that we get to follow Jesus, the more volume the universal following has. Even if they move on from us, we know that Jesus is the center of their lives, and the volume of the Church in general has increased.
We develop higher denisty through studying the Word. The better you know the Word of God (Both the book logos and the living Word, Jesus) the deeper and more ”dense” you become. As individuals increase in density, so shall the group as a whole.
- Velocity is Speed with Direction
Speed is our reaction time to the proding of the Spirit. When the Holy Spirit speaks into the lives of a follower of Jesus, be it through the Word, promptings of others, outside circumstances, or even directly, Speed is how long it takes a person to respond.
Direction is the accuracy of the response to the Spirit. When the Holy Spirit gives a prodding to go and do something, how "on target" to what He says is important.
We develop these areas through prayer, various forms of worship, and just doing what God is telling us to.
Sometimes we’re wrong and our direction is off. It happens. At the very least, we can say we tried something for Jesus rather than having done nothing at all. As Henry Blackaby says, "You cannot follow Jesus and stay where you are at the same time."

Our Five Passions
At Challenge MSC, everything we do is directed by one of our Five Passions. These Passions are:
- Prayer - God is our Passion.
- Worship - Worship is responding to God’s Love.
- Teaching - Teaching is to Lead as You follow
- Evangelism - Evangelism is meeting the needs of fellow students at MSC and people around us.
- Maturity - Maturity is following the Movement of God’s Spirit.
